What's New?

September 2009

It is amazing how short memory can be. The wonder of the Northwest in autumn is breathtaking. Day temperatures soar to 80 or 90 sunshiny degrees farenheit and nights to a comfortable 50 degrees. There are the occassional rainshowers but for the most part, life is heavenly. Cruising on the Harley all leathered up with the wind sneaking around the collar of my leather jacket to remind me of cool riding can be beats the best "spa" day anywhere.

Hubby and I have spent so much time with the kids and grandkids since we returned to the green state. You can't replace family.

There is not much writing news except I'm furiously typing away to finish the dragon story, Dragons Among Us, before my January 1, 2010 deadline. With my two co-Rogue's Angels, we're already creating the next anthology (could be a full length novel) to be published St. Patrick's Day, 2011. We'll be exploring the world of the Fae again and doing some time traveling. I'll slip you bits and pieces as it comes together.

Until that time... never trust a dragon with turquoise eyes.

July 2009

This month marks my 15th anniversary to my amazing husband. We'll be celebrating by riding our '93 Heritage to the coast to stay the night with friends.

Since arriving back in Oregon in March 2009, I've had two book signings, finished my fantasy story for an anthology and become active in the local RWA chapter again. I'm working full time and the hubby part time, however, I'm writing every chance I get. That can be a bit difficult as I'm still an acting Senior Editor at my Wings publishing house and providing some editing at my RoguePhoenixPress publishing house. I've promised myself, and several others, I'd get my dragon story done before the end of the year. I plan on keeping that promise.

I hope you'll visit both publishing sites to see the latest books being put out by excellent new writers and some very outstanding experienced writers.

Visit www.Wings-press.com and www.RoguePhoenixPress.com.

I'd do all the moving again in a heartbeat for my stepkids and grandkids. There really is nothing as important as family.

April 2009

Since my last post I have been "promoted" to Acting Senior Editor of 5 lines at the publishing house. Life has been hectic. We're pulling things back together after many illnesses and family issues of the staff. It has been a challenge but we're meeting the deadlines and searching for good writers who wish to be published. Unlike the big houses, we want more manuscripts. I'm sure the word will leak out to the writers soon.

I've allowed my own writing to take a back seat to everything else, and I'm going to change that in the near future. Like most authors, I feel deprived when I'm not writing. Unfortunately, I did this to myself. I'm ending the self-imposed drought. I have too many stories I wish to tell to sit on my hands. I can sleep when I die!

Life will seamlessly come together and in a month or two I will ponder why I was so concerned. Take care of yourselves and each other.

March 2009

Well, I've let things slide for too long and am playing catch up again. The trip to the wedding proved to be the opening of a door long closed. My husband made contact with all his children and grandchildren and the outcome is that we are moving back to the Northwest. Maybe I'll encounter some of those illusive dragons who nag my dreams.

I've signed on to write a story for a Valentine's Day 2010 Anthology about Faeries and have taken on the mantle of Managing Editor of the Romantic Suspense Division of Wings ePress, Inc. I'm dancing on my toes.

What I wouldn't give to stay home and write! Oh well. Hoping to keep up more often.

July 2008

At the end of the month, the hubby and I are venturing back to Oregon to attend the wedding of my son-in-law and to visit with family and friends. I will be meeting with my new publisher, RoguePhoenixPress owner and writer, Christine Young, and well as one of the graphic cover designers(and writer) Genene Valleau, to put together the campaign to launch one of the new house's first publications--MY BOOK! Color me very excited. We hope to get the book out before the end of 2008.

The book, "Healthy Homicide" is a short (30,000 words) commuter book - easily read in a commute to work. As nearly everyone where I live, in the Antelope Valley of California over the hill from LA, commutes daily, I liked the idea of a book that can be read in one or two sittings. So, I took a story I created for a friend and brushed off the dust and, voila, a commuter book. This cozy murder mystery occurs in a ficticious Day Spa located in Palmdale, California. People are dying in the healthiest place in town? Why? A murder at her favorite day spa in the last three weeks of Alexa Bond-Culver's tenure as Mayor doesn't look good and she's determined to move the cloud of suspicion away and find out who is bold enough to kill people in broad daylight and for what reason. Set aside your newspaper and indulge yourself in this who-done-it on your way to work. Who knows? You might just find a way to put up with your boss during the day!

For more information and a sneak peek at the story, go to www.clkraemer.com.

This story has led to the idea for 10 more books. I hope to have the next one out in a couple months. We'll just see. After all, I've got Dragons tapping their talons waiting for me to tell their story.

By the way--who is the fool that keeps asking where I get my ideas to write? I've let a Djinn out of the bottle and now I can't stop the flow of story ideas. Anyone want to help? Any takers?

I'll keep you posted as things progress.

Watch for "Dust in the Wind". Are the dust devils we see in the desert really just benign wind storms or are they spirits of the native Americans who lived here before the invasion of the white man? Gina Briggs will find out when she agrees to design the interior of a "vacation" home of the newest movie heart throb east of Lancaster. Strange dreams of handsome braves and sensations of deep loss keep overwhelming her. She's sure the strange outline at the bottom of the dried up, earthen water catcher on her new property holds the key.

May 2008

Had a great book signing April 17 for IF ONLY by Celia Cooper. Found out Friday May 2, 2008, that IF ONLY has been chosen as the Golden Wings Award winner in the Contemporary Romance category for May 2008. This award is only given twice a year and the choices are made by the senior editors of the publishing house. I am dancing on my toes.

Publisher of an new epublishing house, as a fan of my writing, invited me to submit work. Will be putting things in there with the hope of getting published. Maybe the dragon trilogy I keep talking and working on? Only time will tell. New epublishing house has a great name--RoguePhoenixPress.com. Isn't that cool?

Another quick note. I have a mystery coming out December 2008 called, Cats in the Cradle of Civilization by C. L. Kraemer. Will keep you posted on the progress of that endeavor.

 February 2008

So much for keeping the site up to date. For that, you have my inadequate apologies. This last year has been one of many changes. A new job; I'm a copy editor for the local daily paper--love the job, pay and benefits, hate the hours. After all, news happens between 8 and 5, right? Work swing shift and, as I am a night owl, those hours don't bother me. What I dislike is the Saturday through Wednesday work week. Never get to see my spouse--and I like him!

The other change is a move into a home--a real home with lots of space, a yard and a garage for the aforementioned spouse to putter (something for which he is very talented). Along with the home, comes TV with more than 3 channels (have you ever tried to move a 50 ft. antennae in 60 mph winds? Tons of fun), and finally, my own internet connection. As I have become dependent on this information age-I am epublished-I'm thrilled to have the instant access at my fingertips. I thank the friends and family that allowed me use of their computers.

So, let us take this journey again. I'll try to be more vigilant in keeping this site updated and you won't throw rotten eggs at me. (Lived in Hawai'i. When Pele was angry, everyone smelled it!). As stated before, I'm knee deep in dragons and shape shifters, as well as reading new manuscripts and copy editing for my publishing house. I really hope to have the middle book of the dragon trilogy completed before summer.

I chose to write the middle book first because it takes place in the here-and-now. Maybe if I get you to love the characters, you'll want to know how they got here (prequel) and where they're going (sequel). Wish me luck and fast fingers.

March 2007

I've tried writing in this journal for over a year and found myself unable to get past this. My mother was killed December 23, 2005. It was a tough year for us all but now we're beginning to see some light. Her quick wit and sage observations will be missed.

I am proud to announce that my third novel, IF ONLY, set in Tampa, Florida, will be released in April of 2008. It is the book that would not allow me to forget it. I am writing the novel my husband has been bugging me about for years--Cyre Drake, Rebirth of a Legend. It will probably be completed in 2008. We'll see how well I keep to the schedule.

I'm also writing several short stories (no more than 75 pages) to sharpen my prose. Probably put them in an anthology.

I hope to be more prudent in keeping this site updated now that the fog of grief is lifting. Thank you all for your kindness and patience.

June 2005

As you can see, June 2005 was a red letter month. "Sun in Sagittarius, Moon in Mazatlan" was released to some wonderful reviews. The cover art was designed and painted by Nita Cooper, my mother, and captures the flavor of this romantic suspense set in Mexico. I do hope you will enjoy the sequel to "Old Enough to Know Better

May 2005

Galleys have been corrected and my mother, the artist, has designed the book cover for Sun in Sagittarius, Moon in Mazatlan. I'll be putting the cover and a bit of a teaser on the front page. June is such a short time away that my head is spinning about where to sent all my review requests. The one thing that is hardest for most authors to do is to market themselves. BUT, I'm determined to make this book a success and I'm the only one who can do it!

March 9, 2005

A great birthday present-- my editor contacted me and moved the publication date of Sun in Sagittarius, Moon in Mazatlan to June of 2005!

Now comes the hard work of editing galleys and setting up signings.

Yesterday, June 27th, 2004, was a red letter day. I received the contract for my second book, "Sun in Sagittarius, Moon in Mazatlan" to be published. It will become a reality in April 2006. I'm floating on clouds. I'll continue to write on the two other novels I've started and concentrate on the screenplay to see if I can accomplish writing for film. Today, I took a small break--tomorrow back to the grindstone.  Yeah me!

August 2004

I was offered and accepted a position as assistant editor with Triskelion Publishing an online publishing house specializing in excellent fiction for and by women. I'll be working on two lines and hoping that someday soon I can quit my day job. Not today.

Keep reading and writing!

UPDATES

November 2005

For the uneducated, November 10, is the Marine Corps Birthday. I am aware as my father is a "retired" Marine (is there really such a creature?). It also happened to be my parent's 56th wedding anniversary. Pretty impressive when you consider that most of us don't make it past 4 or 5 anniversaries. They are from a generation that didn't give up when the going got a little tough.

I've taken on another story. It's Egyptian based, a mystery, and must be accomplished before January 2006. Am co-authoring it with another brilliant young man whose knowledge of all things Egyptian is astounding. Since it has a word limit and a timeline limit, I might actually get it accomplished in time to see if it will be published.

Still puttering on the screenplay, romance novel, and dragon trilogy. A new part-time job with City government at a food buying wage is helping give me the time to write and still have a "life".

Hope your Thanksgiving was good and your Christmas Holidays better.

Will write soon.

October 2005

People can say the stupidest things! I've had co-workers at my "bill paying" job tell me I have "too much time on your hands" when they find out I've written and published two books and numerous stories. Others, ask me "yeah, but what have you done lately?" Makes me want to turn to them and ask how many books they've written and published.

I'm still working on the dragon trilogy; it is taking longer than I'd like but will be more intricate and detailed than I had originally envisioned.

The love story is puttering along.

I've been sidetracked, yet again, by the overwhelming urge to write a screenplay and have enlisted the assistance of a brilliant, young man with whom I work to help. His out-of-the-box, unfettered thinking is putting some amazing life into an idea for a new "female" superhero garnered by a news headline I read on CNN. [And people ask writers where they get their ideas!]

So far, all the reviews I've received for "Sun In Sagittarius, Moon in Mazatlan" have been very positive. They have also gotten people to read the first of the series, "Old Enough to Know Better".

Hopefully, my next update won't take so long in coming. I'll keep you all posted on how each of these projects are progressing. If I don't get back in time--Enjoy your holidays!

Life has interrupted and making a living and paying bills has taken precedence over many things including writing. I'm working on the dragon trilogy, a page at a time, and, so far, my spousal unit is very excited at the direction it is taking. Sometimes allowing the mind just to write provides a better story than plotting, placing, and overworking the situation.

I'll be putting nose to grindstone to get this story accomplished as well as another romance. Would like to get one story a year published. If wishes were horses.....beggars would ride.

Well, I'm hoping to finish the final draft of my second book by the middle of June. I'm fighting with my characters. I have a very dominate Alpha female Bad Girl who doesn't want to die. I'm in the mood to move on so she's going to have to get over it and lay down and die!

Several fantasy/sci-fi characters are trying to get me to put them on paper. I don't know about others but I sometimes find myself hip deep in research (and loving it) and need to find the "enough is enough" point.

I've also involved myself in a comedy group and have started writing comedy sketches. The group is on the East Coast in Florida and will be putting on the production in August. Time and date to be announced. It has been a wonderful eye opening experience and has inspired me to sit down and start a screenplay. Only time will tell if it gets finished let alone sent to someone in Hollywood.

Happy Memorial Day!

As the oldest child of a career Marine, today is special in our household. My father, still living, is a veteran of WWII, Korea, Cuba, and Vietnam. It's because of his sacrifices and others like him I'm able to write stories as I please. Thanks, Dad.

It's also a red letter day because last evening I put the two most important words to a story - THE END. I've finished the first draft of Sun in Sagittarius the follow up novel to Old Enough to Know Better. I'll be editing for the next week before sending the manusript in to my editor to see if the publishing house wants to put this one out. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Don't eat too many hamburgers and remember those who paid the price for our three day weekend.
